England is a country with a long and interesting past. History can be found at every turn, with old castles dotting the country side, colleges with histories dating back to the Middle Ages, ancient Roman sites, and centuries old Royal Palaces which are still in use today. But England is more than just its history, with vibrant cities, great cultural institutions, and fun things to see and do.
At the heart of England lies the city of London, home to the Royal Family and Parliament. The historic streets and monuments are what most people come to see but there are plenty of modern day sights worth visiting as well. The primary tourist attractions consist of the most well known sights; Big Ben and the Parliament Buildings, Buckingham Palace, Trafalgar Square, Westminster Abbey, and the Tower of London, to name just a few. Those with an interest in art or history can spend days wandering through such places as the famous British Museum, the National Gallery, the National Portrait Gallery, the Tate Gallery, and the Victoria & Albert Museum. All of these are world renowned institutions containing some of the finest collections in England. For a little excitement and some great views, the London Eye stands as a modern day landmark on the city skyline.
